In Bangladesh, an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 children are born each year with a cleft lip or palate. Today, around 300,000 children are living with unrepaired cleft conditions—many due to limited access to specialized care. Without treatment, these children face serious challenges with eating, speaking, and social acceptance. Organizations like Smile Bangladesh are working to change that by providing free, life-changing surgeries. In just one hour, a cleft surgery can transform a child’s future.

Pursuit of Excellence: Optimizing Direct and Indirect Restorative Outcome

55 Seventy Members Club 6130 Berkshire Lane, Dallas

  • The first two phases of any restorative care are treatment planning and clinical execution. The third phase, material selection and clinical application, is often underestimated, resulting in failure to serve our patients. The abundance of restorative dentistry materials, such as dental ceramics, adhesives, composite resins, cements, and provisional material, coupled with the constant release of new materials by manufacturers, can be daunting. When clinicians comprehend the fundamental features and characteristics of each material as well as their precise application, the maximum potential of each material can be achieved, resulting in extraordinary patient care. This course will focus on clinical recommendations and material selection criteria to complement the pursuit of restorative dental excellence.

    • Understand the advancement of adhesive systems, tooth-colored direct restorative materials, and which adhesion technique maximizes bonding to the tooth structure. In addition, understanding the relevance of light-curing and the polymerization process, as well as the role it plays in extending restorative therapy.

    • Establish criteria for the selection and use of modern ceramics, including bonding, with a focus on monolithic zirconia, its numerous generations, and how an understanding of ceramic material qualities can lead to successful and long-lasting indirect restorative treatment.

  • Dr. Taiseer Sulaiman is a Tenured Associate Professor and the Director of the Advanced Operative Dentistry and Biomaterials Research at the Adams School of Dentistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his clinical certificate in Operative Dentistry and his PhD in Dental Materials from the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterial Sciences from the University of Turku in Finland in collaboration with the Department of Operative Dentistry at UNC. Dr. Sulaiman is a wet-handed clinician, and a researcher who is passionate about bridging the gap between dental research and clinical application. Dr. Sulaiman’s research focus is on dental ceramics, adhesion, cements, color and appearance in dentistry, and biomimetics. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He is a member of many academies including the Academy of Operative Dentistry (where he serves as councilor to the academy), the Society of Color and Appearance in Dentistry, IADR/AADR, and the American Dental Association. He has presented on numerous national and international stages and serves as a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals.

The Role of Aligners in Pre-Restorative Orthodontics

55 Seventy Members Club at 6130 Berkshire Lane, Dallas

  • Aligners have revolutionized pre-restorative orthodontics by allowing precise tooth movement, creating optimal space, and improving occlusion with minimal invasiveness. This session will explore aligner capabilities, biomechanics, and strategic approaches to optimize restorative-driven cases. We will also discuss how aligner therapy enhances collaboration among the interdisciplinary team, ultimately improving patient outcomes and treatment efficiency. When treating within a general dental office setting, attention will be given to case selection to ensure appropriate patient selection, when to treat, and when to refer.

  • By the end of this session, attendees will:

    1. Understand the capabilities of aligner therapy in preparing cases for veneers, implants, full-mouth rehabilitation, and periodontal health.

    2. Learn how to optimize interdisciplinary workflows between orthodontists, prosthodontists, periodontists, and restorative dentists.

    3. Evaluate case selection and treatment planning principles for pre-restorative orthodontics, including space creation, intrusion/extrusion, and occlusal optimization.

    4. Identify best practices for communication and referrals to streamline treatment sequencing and ensure predictable restorative outcomes.

    5. Explore digital tools for treatment planning to improve efficiency and collaboration within the interdisciplinary team.
